What is a mother to do when V week comes around??!! Take every opportunity to VEGGIE it up!! Oh yes, we had a week full of vegetables! For our faith lesson, we chatted all week about how our bodies are God’s temple. I tried my best to give them a child like understanding of God’s “residence” without reducing the miracle & grace of it all. We talked first of the temple & the holy of holies, then of Christ on earth, then of the Holy Spirit inside us (a little lesson on the Trinity squeaked it’s way in as well ;-0) The oldest quickly made the connection….if we are temples for the One True God….what we DO with and to our bodies matters!! So eating right and caring about what we put in is important.
From this, we went wild! While I chopped up veggies for veggie soup, the boys did veggie prints. Disclaimer: DO NOT attempt veggie prints while making dinner with three boys 5 & under. It started off quite pleasant and then at 5:30 while my soup is filling the house with a wonderful aroma and causing my stomach to moan & groan for its goodness….they start painting their bodies. With vegetables. Paint was everywhere. Lesson learned. Hungry mama had to give long scrubby baths to little boys before eating yummy soup.
We printed two activities from Kidsoup: one for sorting sizes of carrots & one for color sorting, both more at my 3 1/2 year olds level. The oldest worked on words with long & short Vowels while the others did colors & sizes. We also worked on our V box from our Alphabet Box (which was empty prior to this week!!). We now have Velvet, Velcro, a Vest (yes I actually got out a needle & thread for this), and a Valentine. Last, we had a Violin jam session. It rocked. I did a search on Pandora for Violin and we had about an hour of some amazing music and the kids loved it. Middle man broke out some pillows and drum sticks to give the violin some bump ;-). JOY!
