“Rest easy dear one, His Word is living.” Her words didn’t end there. While her gentleness continued, she spoke great truth that was a beautiful reminder to my soul. “They watch you, they see you, they hear you, they know faith in Christ by your life.” Yes, His Word is living but it is also life.
I read a post on www.aholyexperience.com a while ago about a pressure cooker. It was one of those moments that my soul just dwelt on every word she said and my heart has held tight to the truth that came from her own ponderings. It is true….what happens when a pressure cooker does its work. It works when the top is down tight and sealed. It cooks under pressure. If we take the top off before it is time, its purpose cannot be accomplished. What happens to a mother is the same, isn’t it? We get impatient, we get frustrated, we get annoyed. We can quickly choose to blow steam, let the top fly off and release the mommy wrath onto all in our path. But beloved one, the place where the Holy Spirit does the hard work, the work that transforms us to be like Christ in character is when we choose to keep the top on. And with the top on we choose life and love and patience above ourselves. We choose to lay our lives down, surrender our own desires, and let the Word live and let the Word give life. And the result is much more beautiful….when we let our hearts fully cook and the Lord’s purposes for us prevail…..we choose life in Him. That is a victory all mothers can rejoice in together, celebrate together, and encourage one another towards every day.
I was reading the Word, the living Word that gives life. And I came upon dear Abraham as he was walking the dreaded mount Moriah to sacrifice his very own flesh and blood (Genesis 22:1-19). And I was struck by how tightly the top of his pressure cooker was sealed. Did you ever notice in verse 5 he says “WE will worship and then WE will come back to you.” He is not loosing his cool….though he had every right to, and probably thought about it a million times. He had just lost his first son, Ishmael, and now God was asking him for his second. And he remained in the shadow of the wing of the Almighty God who would one day make the same sacrifice. He chose faith instead of fear, he chose to surrender fully to the work of the Lord in the deepest parts of him- the ones that needed the changing, the ones that wanted hold tight to his son and protect him as much as a father could. But he kept the lid tight and the soul work in the hands of the Potter and in turn he learned holy fear (12), holy provision (14), and holy blessing (17), from a wholly obedient life (18).
“May we not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another (Hebrews 10:25)…. to consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart (Hebrews 12:3)….and encourage one another to endure hardship as discipline; for God is treating us as sons (Hebrews 12:7).”
Keep your lids on tight and let the Living Word have Life in the deepest parts dear friends and fellow mothers.
